
Dr. Jiro Oba

Dr. Jiro Oba is a medical expert specializing in Emergency and Disaster Medicine, Trauma-Orthopedics, and Interventional Radiology. He serves as a member of the Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team (JDR) and Japan DMAT, and as an Advisory Committee Member of the ARCH2 Project. He is also the Chairman of the Committee for Critical and Specialized Care in the Acute Phase of Disasters: Research and Management under the Japanese Association for Disaster Medicine (JADM).
Dr. Oba has extensive experience in international disaster relief operations, including deployments for: Typhoon Yolanda (Philippines, 2013) / Cyclone (Vanuatu, 2015) / Earthquake (Nepal, 2015) / Humanitarian aid and health-needs assessment for Ukrainian refugees (Moldova, 2022) / Earthquake (Turkey, 2023) / Health assessment mission in Gaza (2024) / Earthquake (Myanmar, 2025). He has also made significant contributions to domestic disaster response and preparedness, advancing Japan’s disaster medical coordination and international collaboration systems.
